This image is to often seen on the local news about a train de-railing. What causes such a tragic event to happen? Often people try to beat the train over the track and the train tries to stop and de-rails. Also, when a track is ten years old it may have the manual changing way of switching from track to track. The new versions of train track are computer controlled and always change the track when it is supposed to. Due to human error sometimes the track switcher leaves the old tracks unscwitched and the train ends up on the wrong track and de-rails. In the future railroad companies plan to do something about this costly disaster. One thing they are working on is building more secure drop arms so when the train is in a mile of aproching the track the droparms will not lt any cars through no matter what. They will not go down though if a car is still on the track. They are starting on projects to make all the track systems computerized. When all this is finished it will surely save lives and alot of money for the railroad companies.
